It’s out with the mashed potatoes and in with more fresh vegetables and salads at Freeman Court, Habitat for Humanity’s independent living facility for older people in Te Awamutu.
It’s the first major menu change in over 10 years, with Freeman Court residents and meal delivery recipients enjoying a new summer menu.
Freeman Court’s meal delivery service offers an affordable, hot meal delivered fresh to people in the Te Awamutu area at lunchtime.
Habitat Central Region Chief Executive Nic Greene says, “We’re pleased to extend the support of Freeman Court to the local community and assist people who may be unable to prepare a meal for themselves.
“It can be a real weight off people’s shoulders, knowing a nutritious, hearty meal will be delivered for them to enjoy in the comfort of their own home.”
Available Monday to Friday, delivered meals cost just $10.50 per meal. Free delivery is provided by friendly local volunteers.
Meal delivery customers receive the same meal as Freeman Court residents, which includes a meat-and-four-veg style meal and a dessert.
“This service is available for anyone, regardless of age. We welcome both ongoing and short-term customers who may need some extra support during times of illness or recovery,” says Greene.
The new four-week menu rotation introduces more seasonal vegetables and cold salads served alongside hot dishes such as roast chicken, curry lamb, fish and chips, or bacon and egg pie.
Occasionally, Freeman Court receives fresh produce grown by residents’ families or by the residents themselves in the Freeman Court garden, and the kitchen team will incorporate these into their dishes.
If mashed potato fans are worried about their favourite item disappearing off the menu, they needn’t fret – the dish will still feature on the menu once or twice a week.
