Freeman Court
A place for older people to live safely and independently

Just a short walk or scooter ride from shops, pharmacies, medical centres, and the beautiful Te Awamutu rose gardens. We support people to live life independently, knowing everything at home is taken care of.
Freeman Court is part of Habitat for Humanity Central Region, a Community Housing Provider and charity with a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Independent living
At Freeman Court, people choose how to spend their days. They dine together, socialise in our many shared spaces, and retreat to their own private rooms when they feel like it.
Freeman Court is not a rest home or a care facility. People are supported to manage their personal cares for as long as possible.

Established by the community, for the community

Freeman Court has been a fixture of the Te Awamutu community for over 50 years.
In 1970, Te Awamutu Mayor Alf (Ned) Freeman opened the Te Awamutu Eventide Home following a massive fundraising effort by the Te Awamutu Lions Club. The 25-bedroom boarding house became a haven of comfort and enjoyment for older people from throughout the area.
Within five years, the 15-bedroom Bryant Wing had been added, and in 1983 the facility was renamed for Mayor Freeman, in recognition of his 15 years of service to the community.
In 2015, Freeman Court, became part of Habitat for Humanity Central Region. Following an extensive refurbishment, Freeman Court now offers 36 rooms, including 10 ensuite rooms.
True to Freeman Court’s founding, Habitat for Humanity remains dedicated to providing an affordable, safe, and secure home where older people can continue to live independently in the Te Awamutu area.
